Maths Week Ireland
P2/3 Had lots of Maths fun, this week, they wore lots of numbers on our Number Day and took part in an exciting Maths Treasure hunt!
P3/4 had a great start to Maths Week Ireland. They made calculations that were both true and false and then swapped with another group to sort. Great thinking and problem solving!
P7 have been enjoying the Target Board competition on the Maths Week Ireland website. They have been so competitive and have been using lots of Maths skills to reach the daily target.
On Friday we had a great visit from Seth's Mum who is a pharmacist. She explained how she uses Maths each day. The children helped her ensure there were the correct number of tablets (Tic-Tacs!) in the prescriptions and helped her measure out the correct amount of specific liquids. Thank you so much for giving up your time - one Primary 5 boy was extremly proud today!
P5-7 had a visit today from Mrs H's friend Jayne Kernohan from Leighinmohr House Hotel where she works as a receptionist. Jayne told the children all about the Maths she uses each day in her job. These included estimating, addition, subtraction, time, using percentages and so much more. Thank you for visiting!
Dr Humphrey visited P5-7 today to tell them all about his job as an engineer for Provizio. Currently the team are working on designing and perfecting a radar that will hopefully be used in the future on acars and on farm machinery to detect hazards. He explained to the children how a radar works with the help of a few volunteers and told them all how he uses maths in everything he does.
Today we held our very first Groggan Poetry Slam. The children and staff have worked very hard to have their poems performance ready. Today they got to perform their poems to the rest of the school and to our very special visitor, Mr. Weir, Vice Principal of Slemish College. He loved all of the poems and was delighted to be invited to watch the children perform.
Today is World Teachers' Day, Mrs H and her two helpers delivered a sweet treat to all of the staff. All of our staff help make up our Groggan family and the school just couldn't function without each one.
Thank you to everyone who sent in buns and traybakes for our Macmillan Coffee morning, those who attended and to those of you who kindly sent in monetary donations. Thank you to everyone who helped and a special mention to our wonderful Charity Committee. Primary 1/2 sang so well for us all.
When you make Mrs H's day by giving her the Gingerbread man you made. What a star!
Take a look at some of the super activities P2/3 did during our Take 5 Day today.
Primary 7 had lots of fun today in school during our first Take 5 day of the year. They 'Gave' each other compliments and 'Connected' by sharing these in Circle Time. They were all 'Active' and had a Go Noodle Brain Break after Numeracy, five minutes extra at Break, P.E. and their Daily Mile. They 'Kept Learning' by taking part in a Maths Investigation where they used Excel on the computer and ipads. They 'Took Notice' of objects outside and took photos of them for their Comparatives and Superlatives Scavenger Hunt.
What a packed day!
A huge thank you to everyone who sent in donations for the Food Bank. Part of our Take 5 work is to 'Give', Miss Purdy and the Charity Committee were beyond delighted. Mrs H's car is full to the brim and she will drop them all off at the Food Bank.
P3/4 enjoyed their Take Five day, they made mindfulness jars (Take Notice), enjoyed some Go Noodle, (Be Active), some Connect and Nurture, including massage (Give and Connect) and
