Together we Learn

Welcome

Welcome to our school website

I am honoured and proud to be the Principal of Groggan Primary School. We are a rural Primary school situated outside Randalstown on the main Portglenone Road. Our children come from Antrim, Ahoghill, Grange, Toome and Ballymena areas. Our school building was renovated in 2015 and we have four classrooms in the main school building and two mobile classrooms. We are awaiting the commencement of another extension which is for two new classrooms, new toilets and a Resource area. Our grounds are extensive, with a large playground and grass area, a sensory garden and our very own football nets. We add to our outdoor provision for the children often and have an impressive Outdoor Classroom.

We currently have 128 pupils in the school, and they are taught this year in five/six classes. Classrooms are well equipped with the latest Interactive Whiteboards and are well resourced for Play in the younger classes. We have a number of online platforms which support the children's learning, Lexia is used with the younger pupils and any child who needs additional support with their Literacy. We use SeeSaw to support home/school communication and for some homeworks. Accelerated Reader which is a fantastic programme to encourage and improve the children's reading, Mathletics to engage the children and extend our Numeracy provision with Maths Seeds in place for the younger pupils.

Each classroom has their own allocation of iPads, tablets. laptops and desktops and we use ICT in all subjects, we were recently runners up in the ICT Excellence Awards in June 2024 for our work on coding and computational thinking.

The school offers Music lessons in strings and woodwind, the lessons are provided at a cost by the EA Music Service. We have a thriving choir, which has been successfully at Ballymena Festival and sings in numerous community events throughout the year.

We have a wide range of afterschool activities on offer, Coding, Hockey, Play Ball, Ju Jitsu and Hockey to name but a few. Our Breakfast Club is open each morning from 8 a.m. and the children enjoy a healthy breakfast served by a member of staff.

I am supported by a committed team of Teachers, Classroom Assistants, Office and Cleaning staff. We value each of our pupils and work hard to ensure they reach their full potential. Some pupils may require some additional help and we have provision in place to support our learners.

Groggan has a family feel and each of the children is truly valued. The children are happy, and the school is very well supported by our families and by the community.

We would love to show you around, please contact the school if you would like more information or a copy of our prospectus and we would be happy to help.
