Easons Spelling Bee

Today, Losi Angell from Primary 7 took part in the Co Antrim heat of the Eason's Spelling Bee. We are delighted to say that she won her heat and is through to the next round in Belfast! Our human dictionary is a real credit to Groggan- well done Lois!

Hockey Tournament

Some of our pupils attended Ulster Hockey's Antrim 6's tournament on Thursday 27th of April. We took two teams a boys' team and a girls' team. Each team played three matches and Groggan fought to the end of every match. Both teams drew in one of their matches and the boys team managed a goal in their last match. This was a great first tournament for the children and they did the school proud!

Sustrans Cycling - Level 1

On Tuesday and Wednesday a number of our P5-7 pupils took part in the Sustrans Level 1 Cycling training. The children braved the cold and I am delighted to say they all passed - well done everyone and thank you to Sustrans for all their support.

Anti Bullying Training - Antrim Grammar.

On 31^st March 2017, some members of School Council attended an Anti-Bullying event at Antrim Grammar. We had a busy and interesting day learning about different types of bullying and how to deal with them. An easy way to remember the types of bullying is by using the acronym: V.I.P. V stands for verbal. (Such as name calling, offensive language etc.). I stands for Indirect, (Isolating someone, rumours, cyber bullying etc.). P stands for physical, (Hurting, kicking, punching etc.). Another important fact about bullying is that it has to be intentional and repeated.

Something you may not know is that bullying almost affects almost every child in Britain. One of the main purposes of this training day was to ensure that all young people know who they can talk to, if they have any bullying related issues. The School Council are being trained to be Anti-Bullying Ambassadors. These ambassadors will support others if they want to talk to someone about bullying. Along with an Anti-Bullying Ambassador leader, they will also try to come up with some fun and exciting Anti-Bullying initiatives. The first thing we plan to do is take an Assembly to inform the rest of the school about what we have learnt. We all benefited a lot from this day and we hope it will make a difference.

Easter Lunch

Groggan's Got Talent

A big thank you to our Primary 6/7 pupils who organised, 'Groggan's Got Talent', as part of their Junior Entrepreneur work with Miss Kane. it was a huge success and the winner was Grace from P5/6. The children had lots of organising to do prior to the event. They planned, organised and worked with finance by selling mix ups to the children and calculating profit. Lots of super work going on in P6/7!

A massive congratulations to everyone who took part, the standard (and variety) of acts was incredible.

The final will be held for the whole school to enjoy on Monday afternoon, this is the pinnacle of all the hard work Miss Kane and P6/7 have been doing with the Junior Enterprise programme.
