Welcome

Welcome

Welcome to our school website.

I am honoured and proud to be the Principal of Groggan Primary School. We are a rural Primary school situated outside Randalstown on the main Portglenone Road. Our children come from Antrim, Ahoghill, Grange, Toome and Ballymena areas. Our school building was renovated in 2015 and we have four classrooms in the main school building and two mobile classrooms. Our grounds are extensive, with a large playground and grass area with our own football nets. We add to our outdoor provision for the children often and have recently installed an Outdoor Classroom.

We currently have 124 pupils in the school and they are taught this year in six classes. Classrooms are well equipped with the latest Interactive Whiteboards and are well resourced for Play  in the younger classes, with updated Literacy, Reading and Numeracy schemes throughout the school. We have a number of online platforms which support the children's learning, Lexia is used with the younger pupils and any child who needs additional support with their Literacy. We use SeeSaw to support home/ school communication and it was used successfully to teach the pupils during Lockdown. In January 2021 we will be launching Accelerated Reader which is a fantastic programme to encourage and improve the children's reading. We are also about to commence using Mathletics to engage the children and extend our Numeracy provision.

Each classroom has their own allocation of iPads and we use Technology in all subjects, the children especially love using the Spheros, which they can control by coding.

The school offers Music lessons in strings and woodwind, the lessons are provided at a cost by the EA Music Service. We have a thriving choir, which has been successfully at Ballymena Festival many times over the years. Our Orchestra plays at key events throughout the year for family and friends.

We have a wide range of afterschool activities on offer, Coding, Hockey, Catch Up Clubs, STEM to name but a few. Our Breakfast Club is open each morning from 8 a.m. and the children enjoy a healthy breakfast, and can play with their friends.

I am supported by a committed team of Teachers, Classroom Assistants, Office and Cleaning staff. We value each of our pupils and work hard to ensure they reach their full potential. Some pupils may require some additional help and we have provision in place to support some of our learners.

Groggan has a family feel and each of the children is truly valued. The children are happy and the school is very well supported by our families and by the community.

We would love to show you around, unfortunately this year, that just isn't possible due to current restrictions. Please contact the school if you would like more information or a copy of our prospectus and we would be happy to help.
